Back in early 2020 — before COVID-19 took over, believe it or not — I had a chance to finally sit down and play A Plague Tale: Innocence. I loved it. The story grabbed me. The stealth was fun and not too terribly overdone. The puzzles were easy to understand, but not so easy that you could complete them immediately. I thought Asobo nailed it, which is why I predicted Microsoft would scoop them up. They do great work. That did not happen, of course, but we got the next best thing: A Plague Tale Requiem, a sequel. Here’s what we know about the A Plague Tale Requiem release date, and some other juicy details.
The A Plague Tale Requiem release date is just 2022 for now
So there’s some good news and some bad news when it comes to the A Plague Tale requiem release date. Everyone loves good news, right? So let’s start with that. This game will be a day-one release into Xbox Game Pass, which means subscribers won’t have to pay up to play the next chapter in the A Plague Tale series.
Okay, now the bad news. A Plague Tale Requiem won’t be releasing until sometime in 2022. To be real about it, this is a pretty quick turnaround considering the first title came out in 2019. A three-year cycle is increasingly becoming rare nowadays as games get bigger and more beautiful. And remember: Asobo was also working on Microsoft Flight Simulator! This has been a very busy studio.
The story of A Plague Tale Requiem remains very much a secret
Sadly, we don’t have a lot to go on in the way of the story in this one. If you recall how the last one ended — with Amicia and Hugo defeating the Inquisition and Hugo learning to embrace and control his powers — you may wonder what kind of role the rats will play this time around. After all, if Hugo can command them, are they really as big a threat?
The YouTube trailer for the unveiled game only offers this: “Embark on an emotional and breathtaking journey. Follow Amicia and her brother Hugo on a perilous new quest, doing whatever it takes to survive a brutal, uncaring world.” What does it mean? Who is making the world so brutal and uncaring this time around?
I’m going out on a limb here a bit, because I really don’t know any more than you do, but I sense that actual humans will be the larger threat in Requiem. There may be some rats that are out of Hugo’s reach, but otherwise, you may be able to instruct the swarm as more of an ally this time around rather than having to fear the rats quite as much.
