“From the Desk of Donald J. Trump” was supposed to be the former president’s new method of communicating with his supporters. According to CNBC, however, after just a few weeks online, the blog is shutting down.

Trump aide Jason Miller told the outlet that the blog “will not be returning,” and that “It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on.” Miller did not elaborate on what any of those efforts might be, though we have a sneaking suspicion — given the lack of commitment to a relatively simple blog — that its replacement will not be a full-fledged social network.

As CNBC noted, Trump launched the blog “after larger social media companies banned him from their platforms” following the Capitol riots on Jan. 6, 2021. However, it never managed to capture quite as much attention as his accounts on Twitter and Facebook, which remain suspended at this time.

It remains to be seen if those social networks will relent and allow Trump to once again begin posting, or if the former president might devise some other way to reach his base online. Trump does still have email to fall back on — an avenue his team continues to use to rally supporters and boost allies.
