After all the jokes about the Xbox Series X looking like a refrigerator when it was first unveiled in late 2019, Microsoft ran with that by sending a few influencers actual Xbox fridges. But it wasn’t done there. After the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase wrapped up yesterday, one last trailer was hidden beyond the stream’s end screen: one for an Xbox Mini Fridge. This is apparently a real product with a real release window. This is apparently a legitimate consumer appliance that keeps things cold.
Congratulations, world — you’ve successfully memed a new product into existence, and convinced Microsoft to dive head-first into the refrigerator business.
I’m not going to lie to you — this is a thing I would probably buy. I’m really torn on where I’d put it, though. In the game room seems like an obvious choice, but I’m not sure how I’d feel having this refrigerator replica of the Xbox Series X sitting just feet away from the actual Xbox Series X. It’s a very slippery slope. Toss an XSX pillow onto the couch and suddenly I might as well have a whole room themed around that one console. I’m not sure that’s a place I want to go to.
If I worked in an outside office, I think that would definitely be the spot for it, because it would send a very clear message to anyone who happened to stop by my desk and see it: I play video games and also drink ungodly amounts of Coke Zero. Those are two things you should know about me wrapped up into one sleek black package.
The Xbox Mini Fridge is slated for a Holiday 2021 release, but that’s all we have on it at this point. No price has been revealed, nor do we know if this will be widely available or come as part of a limited run. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for more news on this strange new product, and will let you know when more details arrive.
