I’ve written previously about using your iPad as a laptop. But what about a desktop? If you have an iPad Pro, especially, wouldn’t it be great to have a more desktop-like experience for that, with all the ports you need present and within arm’s reach? That’s basically what Satechi is going for with its new Aluminum Stand and Hub.

Priced at $99.99 (but available for 20% off until June 6), the Satechi Aluminum Stand and Hub for iPad Pro holds true to its name. It’s a stand that’ll work with either size of the iPad Pro, and it also acts as a hub to extend the functionality of your Pro past its one onboard USB-C port.

You may be fairly surprised, though, at the number of ports Satechi’s hub is packing.

  • HDMI port (Supports 4K, 60hz)
  • USB-A data port
  • USB-C PD charging port
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • Micro/SD card readers

All of these ports are handily built into the base of the stand, so when your iPad Pro is slotted in, it ends up looking more like an all-in-one PC rather than a tablet.

I am slightly disappointed about two things missing from Satechi’s stand: additional USB-C ports, and an Ethernet port. The lack of other USB-C ports means you’re all tapped out once your iPad’s sole port is used up by the hub. And some may prefer an Ethernet port for internet connectivity if they’re really going for that “desktop-esque” experience.

Still, this is a fairly solid hub that does most of what you might want while totally winning in the aesthetics department. I’m hoping to get my hands on one to check it out. I’ll report back my findings once that happens.
