Valorant on Xbox: Will it ever release?

Here’s to hoping Riot puts Valorant on Xbox consoles.

Christmas has come and gone, and I can tell you there’s one present I was hoping to find other the tree that never materialized: Valorant on Xbox. Valorant, for those unfamiliar, is an incredibly popular tactical shooter made by Riot Games, the company behind League of Legends.

Right now, Valorant is only available on PC. Its absence on consoles — particularly on Xbox machines — has us wondering if Riot will ever bring the game to the living room, or if it’ll remain PC only for life. Let’s dig in and see what the likelihood of Valorant on Xbox truly is.

Valorant is slated to get a mobile version

It seems Riot does want to expand the reach of Valorant outside the PC space, as there’s reportedly a mobile version in the works. Chalk this up in the good news column, as it shows Riot isn’t content to let PC be the only platform that carries the game forward.

One does have to wonder, though, how Valorant’s fast-paced, twitchy shooting will translate into an experience built for smartphones and tablets. It could be argued that consoles have fared far better with first-person shooters than mobile devices have, but then again, Riot Games could be looking at the sheer audience numbers of mobile instead of which platform is truest to the original PC version of the game.

Sadly, there’s been no word on Valorant for Xbox

Valorant has been on PC since June 2020. One year later in June 2021, a mobile spin on Valorant was announced. Unfortunately, that’s been it as far as news of the game coming to any other platform. Riot Games hasn’t positively confirmed a version for Xbox, or for PlayStation or Switch, for that matter.

That’s not to say there’s a dearth of shooters on Xbox at the moment. Far from it. There are your standard Call of Duty titles, there’s Overwatch for more arcade-style strategy, and Halo Infinite’s release date was not too long ago. There are plenty of other quality options.

But wow, it would be spectacular to have a game like Valorant in the fold. Even if the game was a twist on the formula — like Wild Rift is to League of Legends —that would be something, at least. If someone at Riot Games is out there and listening: please make this happen.
